[lammps-users] atoms fly in nanocutting simulation

Dear lammps-users:
When I simulating nanometric cutting, the atoms would fly out when the tool touches the substrate. I don’t know what is the reason for this. I used potentials followed sucess examples,so, i think it is not about potentials. But is there other reasons can lead to atom flying?
Thank you very much!
Sincerely yours,
Chen

what is the speed with which you hit the surface?
you may transfer quite a bit of momentum...

Dear Axel:
Thank you for replying my question.
I use -400 at 0.0001timestep, using units metal. I have tried many speed and many timestep.but atom would always fly, only a matter of speed. Can you help me finding out what is wrong ? Thank you very much!
Sincerely yours.
Chen

You need to visualzize your system and monitor
forces on atoms (dump them out) and thermo info
(print it to screen) and insure that your system is
behaving well when you bring two surfaces together.
