[lammps-users] LAMMPS DEM and DEM-CFD together with openFoam

Dear LAMMPS users,

I am not sure how many of you are working in the field of granular materials
and the Discrete Element Method (DEM), yet it is obvious that the majority
of development and application of LAMMPS is in the field of MD.

Nevertheless, LAMMPS has many great features in the field of granular
materials. One thing that is definitely missing in LAMMPS to use it as a DEM
tool is a feature to import wall geometry from CAD in order not to be
restricted to cubes or cylinders. I would like to add such a feature to
LAMMPS in the near future.

For those of you that are not aware of how many possibilites LAMMPS offers
for the simulation of granular materials, I put together some sample videos.
Please refer to our homepage at

http://fluid.jku.at/hp/index.php?option=com_docman&task=cat_view&gid=168

to download an archive containing sample videos in wmv format and LAMMPS
input scripts (either in zip or rar format).

LAMMPS is also perfect for being part of an open source DEM-CFD package
together with the quasi standard open source CFD package openFOAM. This is
an in-house developement in beta stadium but I already wrote an in-house
DEM-CFD coupling for two commercial products so it should be possible to
have a good code quite soon.

As I do not know many people that are doing DEM simulations, I would like to
ask you give me feedback. It would be great to team up in some kind. If you
are interested in a devlelopement of LAMMPS towards DEM, please answer via
this mailing list or contact me at [email protected]...!

Greetings from Austria,

Christoph
