[lammps-users] lammps running

Dear all.

I am running my case on lammps. Most of time, it works well on our cluster. But sometimes, my running will be aborted. The error information is

cannot connect to local mpd (/tmp/mpd2.console_zxshi001); possible causes:

  1. no mpd is running on this host
  2. an mpd is running but was started without a “console” (-n option)

I asked the administrator of our cluster. they said they never have this problem before.

Is it because the memory is not enough?

But I am running a case with

1208 atoms
592 bonds
296 angles

shake, pppm were used for water. Airebo potential has been used for graphite.

in log.lammps file, it is said “memory usage per processor=5.55441 Mbytes”, which is small. I used 8 processors for this case.

So Anybody met this problem before?

Best wishes

Dear all.

I am running my case on lammps. Most of time, it works well on our cluster.

cannot connect to local mpd (/tmp/mpd2.console_zxshi001); possible causes:

well, that does _not_ rule out that it would be a problem with the
machine setup.

this is an error message related to launching an MPI parallel job,
and that would mean that either your job script is at fault or the
machine configuration (e.g. a corrupted or misconfigured /tmp/ filesystem).

in any case, your local sysadmins or user support are the
people that should be able to help you with that.

keep in mind, that "it is not my fault" is the preferred default answer
if somebody is hoping for your to do the job instead.

cheers,
    axel.

My guess is this has nothing to do with LAMMPS. Mpd is
an MPI daemon that mpirun talks to, to start up MPI jobs.
If it dies, you have no way to start an MPI job, of any kind,
not just LAMMPS. And there should be no way a running
LAMMPS job kills mpd.
