[lammps-users] Making movies from lammps

Hi ,
which is the most appropriate format of Lammps files in order to input in VMD and create a movie because the quality with atomEye is not the same? Can i do it with .lammpstrj or is there any better?
Moreover ,in order to do it i need to install VMD Movie Plugin for linux?

Dimitris

Did you already try the readme for the lmp2vmd tool in the tools directory of the lammps download?

the quality of movies in VMD does not at all depend on the file format.
the format just provides the coordinates. the representations in VMD
provide the way how it looks.

the movie make plugin _is_ installed by default, but that actually
is just a glorified do loop. it is a great tool for quick-n-dirty
movies, though.

to do very high quality movies, you need to know the details of the
video compression software that you are using and then you are
typically best off rendering frames manually with a small handwritten
tcl script. you can control the quality of the original images by choosing
different internal and external rendering options.

this one was done with using OpenGL display with a GLSL capable
nvidia graphics card in 1920x1080p and using MPEG-1 compression
via the ppmtompeg package from netpbm. rendering time a few minutes,
compression time about 30mins.

this one was done using InternalTachyon rendering (i.e. ray tracing)
with ambient occlusion and 24x antialiasing and then using 2-pass
MPEG-2 compression using ffmpeg. rendering time 24hours,
compression time 10mins.

those are recompressed by youtube to mpeg4, so the original
quality is even higher.

So as a first step you suggest me to to use only the VMD,just for start? Can i do it with .lammpstrj file? I mean i have all the snapshots in one file ,can i do it like that or from several files-each one a snapshot?
In what way will i render it?

Yes i have ,but i was lookin for something to do the movie directly from the vmd+lammps file

i don't really understand the question, but i suggest you go
over the VMD tutorials at: http://www.ks.uiuc.edu/Training/Tutorials/
