[lammps-users] Pressure pzz - pressure on face of simulation box?

Hi Everyone,

I have a question regarding pzz, the pressure in the z direction. This is obviously the pzz component of the pressure tensor; however I am trying to derive the force from pzz. Can pzz be interpreted as the pressure on the x-y face of the simulation box? If this hypothesis was correct, the force could then be calculated by multiplying pzz by the area of the x-y box face (force = stress x area).

Nathan.

Pzz is a bulk quantity, calculated from all the atoms. You can interpret
it as force across a face (since pressure = force/area), but that's not
how it's calculated. If you don't have inhomegeneties in your system,
the two should be close.
