i am forwarding john's announcement about the
third (and hopefully final) beta release of VMD 1.9

VMD-1.9 includes significant updates for LAMMPS related features,
most prominently triclinic cell support for the molfile plugin for lammps
atom style and custom dump files and the topotools plugin.
that - among other functions - supports reading lammps data files in
a similar fashion as dump files and can be used to create data files.
