Make.tacc file

GreetingsI am a TACC sys admin and I cannot help but notice that the Make.tacc file in src/MAKE just does not work. Would it be possible to submit a patch to this file and some instructions to help users compile lammps on our systems? I am updating the system installation with the latest lammps but there are a lot of patched/user-modified versions of lammps that keep getting compilation requests.

Greetings
I am a TACC sys admin and I cannot help but notice that the Make.tacc file
in src/MAKE just does not work. Would it be possible to submit a patch to
this file and some instructions to help users compile lammps on our systems?

feel free to submit an updated version.

I am updating the system installation with the latest lammps but there are a
lot of patched/user-modified versions of lammps that keep getting
compilation requests.

the _better_ place for site specific compilation instructions
would be the TACC webpages. you should know _much_
better where and how to pull in the necessary requirements
on the various TACC machines. the configuration shipped
with LAMMPS is a contributed file and most likely was
set up for the old lonestar machine. no surprise it doesn't work.

the installation instructions for LAMMPS pretty clear and most
people can manage well. if they don't, i'd rather say it is a
problem of the local site specific information or general education
of the local users. it cannot be the job of the LAMMPS documentation
to train people in how to compile a parallel program. compared to
other packages that are available in the field, the instructions for
LAMMPS are about the best and the requirements the lightest
that i have seen for any similar problem (try compiling CP2K for
a change in hybrid OpenMP+MPI mode and then you'll never
want to touch it again).

cheers,
