Maximum number of groups to process at once

Dear,

Why reason you can only process a maximum of 32 groups at a time ?.

There is a flag in the code to change this restriction ?

Dear,

Why reason you can only process a maximum of 32 groups at a time ?.

because LAMMPS uses bitmasks to manage group identity efficiently. those
are limited to 31 bits plus the group all.

There is a flag in the code to change this restriction ?

no. this requires *significant* programming. if you had done a search in
the mailing list archives, you would have seen this answer and also seen,
that practically all cases where people claim they need more groups, it
could be resolved differently. nobody has yet provided a convincing case
justifying the rewrite of practically any line of code in LAMMPS related to
groups (and those are a lot), not to mention breaking source code
compatibility with all external packages and add-ons.

you really only need groups when atoms need to participate in multiple
overlapping groups at the same time.

axel.

Thanks , I understand . I could actually solve the problem by reducing the number of groups.
But just emerged that doubt me .
