(no subject)

Hi,
I'm a MSc student of materials science, I have just began my MS study
and I'm about to pick an issue for my thesis, I've read many texts and
handouts about MD simulation and I'm aware of it's principles but I've
not done any MD simulations yet.
I am highly interested in polymer and bio molecules simulations and
since our research group in the department work with LAMMPS I have to
work with this engine.
My problem is that I have no idea about what is novel in these fields
(bio and polymer molecule simulations) which can be done by LAMMPS,
and what related issues are now under research. Considering that I am
new in LAMMPS and I have 1.5 or 2 years to do my MSc project, what
issues do you suggest that I can consider as my project field.

Thanks for your time.

i have to congratulate you to your optimism and belief in
the good heartedness of mankind.

however, if i had a good idea for a new research topic,
then i would keep it for a student that would want to
work for me, or work on it for myself. after all, it would
be a good idea and nobody else would yet know about it.

i would expect that that is true for almost anybody.

since you mentioned that there are people already using lammps
in your group. why don't you talk to them? if you'd work on something
similar you would have the added benefit, that you have local expertise
that can help you to get started in the right direction.

cheers,
    axel.

Or talk to your advisor - that is his job, to advise you on these sorts
of matters.
