PhD & Postdoc Positions in Computational Materials Science

Within the framework of the Cluster of Excellence Engineering of Advanced Materials and an ERC Consolidator Grant, the materials modeling group of Prof. Erik Bitzek at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität (FAU) Erlangen-Nürnberg is inviting applications for postdocs and PhD students in the field of atomistic simulations of mechanical properties. Research Topics include the effect of interfaces on the mechanical properties of metals, fracture of intermetallics and deformation and fracture of silicate glasses.

The successful candidate will hold a degree in Physics, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field and have a proven track record in performing numerical simulations, preferably using Molecular Dynamics. In addition, a solid background in fracture mechanics, dislocation-mediated plasticity, physical metallurgy and mechanical behavior of materials as well as programming skills are highly desirable. Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work well in a dynamic and collaborative research environment are essential.
