The OS is ubuntu server 16.04.5 architecture x86_64
C/C++ version: gcc version 5.4.0 20160609 (Ubuntu 5.4.0-6ubuntu1~16.04.10)
I downloaded LAMMPS from the stable branch of the git repository on Nov 8th

I downloaded LAMMPS from the stable branch of the git repository on Nov 8th

the stable branch will give you the latest stable release, which has introduced cmake support and several issues with it have come up since. please use the “unstable” branch instead.
