read restart from different lammps version

Dear Lammps users,

I need to read some results from older lammps version and when I tried to read the restart file the current lammps showed me some ERROR said that the restart file is from another version.

Is there anyway to read a restart file from different version of lammps ?

Thanks,
Erik

Dear Lammps users,
I need to read some results from older lammps version and when I tried to
read the restart file the current lammps showed me some ERROR said that the
restart file is from another version.

binary compatibility of restarts is only preserved for
as long as no changes are made to the details of
what individual parts of the code write to it. that may
last for many months, but occasionally compatibility
will be broken.

Is there anyway to read a restart file from different version of lammps ?

not directly. all you can do is convert the restart to a data file
using a restart2data source that matches the binary format
of your specific restarts. that will only preserve coordinates
and velocities.

Axel is correct, and your earilier version of LAMMPS should
have a tools/restart2data file that enables you to convert
your old restart file to text format, for input into the
current LAMMPS version.
