Restart file compatibility

Dear All,

I have a restart file which is made with 16Sep13 version of lammps. I can use this restart file with lammps-icms that I pulled on Nov. 15, 2013 but the lammps-icms that I pulled today( Mar 26, 2013) doesn’t like that restart file. I can convert that to data file and set up the simulation accordingly, but I was wondering if there is a way too feed that restart file into this new version without using restart2data?
Does this incompatibility of restart files between different version of lammps, happen? Or it’s a problem on my side?

Cheers,
Kasra.

The compatibility was broken in one of the early December releases. AFAIK, there's no way to get the new version to read the old restart file (besides restart2data).

Instead of using restart2data, try the write_data command.

Yes, please see the 6 Dec 2013 patch.

Niall is correct, but the old version should read the old restart file,
and you can use the old version’s tools/restart2data
or write_data command to write a data file
you can read into the new version.
