You haven’t been reading the LAMMPS doc pages and the Tersoff papers carefully enough and have been making statements based on your incorrect assumptions. Why do you “think” Tersoff and Tersoff/table should yield different results due to differently formulated cutoff functions? Have you even plotted the two cutoff functions and examined in a scientific way how the two functions vary with changing rij? This is a simple mathematical exercise you can do to answer your own question.
