To delete overlapped atoms of the same type!

Hello!
It seems in Lammps the command: “delete_atoms overlap cutoff group1-ID group1-ID” deletes both atoms!
Is there any other way to delete only one of the two overlapped atoms?!

that is how it is supposed to work (check out the documentation).
please provide a simple example that reproduces the non-documented
behavior.
