Using Miller Indices to define cuts

Is there a way to use Miller Indices to define surface cuts, as oppose to doing it as a fraction of the total box size?

With “surface cuts” you mean OVITO’s Slice modifier? No, at the moment its cutting plane can only be specified in Cartesian space.

If you are an OVITO Pro user, you could build your own Python-based wrapper function for the Slice modifier, accepting Miller indices as input and invoking the Slice modifier as sub-routine with the converted Cartesian representation. Let me know if you are interested in this kind of solution.

In one of the next OVITO releases, we’ll try to extend the capabilities of the Slice modifier to also support Miller indices or cutting plane parameters in reduced cell coordinate space.
