When we assign velocity distribution ( gaussian ), is the distribution is for energy distribution or position distribution? If it is a energy distribution then what is the meaning of 0 mean energy? Thanks.
It’s a thermal energy distribution. Not sure what a position distribution is. The mean (or net) added momentum
to the system is 0, not the mean energy.
