Workshop on Scientific Software Development at ICTP in Trieste

hi everybody,

since there are quite a few people here subscribed to the list that
not only use LAMMPS but add their own new features to it (or plan
or were tasked to do it), i would like to draw your attention to a
workshop in mid march 2013 that we are currently preparing here
at the ICTP in Trieste.

This workshop specifically aims to introduce scientists to modern
software development tools and best practices over a two week
intense training program with lectures and a lot of hands-on training.

There is _no registration fee_ and the ICTP guest house provide
low-cost accommodation (subject to capacity limitations).

Qualified applicants from _developing countries_ can apply for partial
or full financial support for travel, meals and accommodation.

In the days following the general training, there will be an opportunity
to attend specific training sessions for LAMMPS development.
It will also be possible to attend *only* the LAMMPS development
meeting. There is no registration fee for this events as well.

Participation is subject to qualification and available capacity
of lecture halls and computer rooms. For more details, please see:

p.s.: the LAMMPS satellite meeting didn't make it on the
poster, but will happen nevertheless.

hi everybody,

this is reminder that the deadline for this workshop
is *this* sunday january 6th. a few clarifications on
questions that came up since my original post.

- you have to be a native of *and* work in a developing
country to be eligible for financial support from ICTP.
however, there are *no fees* and the cost of
accommodation in the ICTP guest houses is extremely
low (especially when sharing a room).

- there will be a session on LAMMPS development
(how to write your own classes for LAMMPS and
how to interface LAMMPS to your own code) on
the weekend directly after the two-week workshop
(and before the Q-E developer training).

- if you are *only* interested in the LAMMPS developer
training session, please contact me personally. this
is likely to be possible. this will be an informal event
and hence no financial support from ICTP is available.
  only the facilities are provided.
