Any update on migration of LAMMPS licence terms from GLP to LGLP

Dear LAMMPS developers,
In the spring of 2019 you sent out an email explaining your desire to migrate from GPL to LGPL. The reasoning seemed very sound - and I notice that PLUMED has already made the change. Do you have an update on this as regards LAMMPS - and when/if you will make the switch?

We are interested in this regarding its impact on software distributed according to Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/ when dynamically linked to LAMMPS

Thanks & Best wishes

Donal,

out of curiosity: who is “we”?

the current status is the following:

  • development continues under GPL
  • an LGPL version of LAMMPS is available on request (= email to steve) for stable releases

HTH,
Axel.

Thanks, Axel for the instant reply.
