Colvars bug in latest Windows version of LAMMPS

Dear Lammps-Users,

I encountered the following issue when attempting to use colvars in the latest 64-bit Windows version of LAMMPS, it was unable to read in all the index groups even though all the groups were written into the index files. I have ran the same script on Linux version of LAMMPS and it works fine.

do the index files used on windows have the proper end-of-line markers
for dos/windows (CR-LF)?
when the files were created on linux, which uses a different marker
(only LF), there may be problems reading the file.

if you believe this is not the issue, please post a small example that
demonstrates the problem.

thanks,

Dear Dr. Kohlmeyer,

The error was generated when I created the index file in Windows lmp_serial with group2ndx. I used another index file created using Linux and used that file to run the script again in Windows and it read the groups just fine. I assume it is this EOL difference that might be causing the error. Does this mean I should always create the colvars index file using Linux first?

it means that there is a bug somewhere, but i am not sure exactly
whether it is in the group2ndx command or the colvars library.

will need to investigate. at least you have a workaround for now..
