dump_modify element

Dear all,
when i am visulazing my simulation with VMD i am having hard times with multicoloring of atoms.i want all carbon atoms have the same color, all N have the same , etc…so that is why i used dump_modify element command and according to manual -that is how i understand it-
i wrote it like this:

dump_modify 2 element C1 H2 H3 H4 H5 C6 C7 C8 C9 C10 C11 C12 N13 N14 N15 O16

and i tried many more different versions too, but nothing seems to work.help please…

what dump style are you using? only some of them support dump_modify element.
