Hello everyone,
I’m a new user of Ovito and now learning ParaDiS, whose tutorial said " The initial dislocation structure <180chains_16.10e.data> can be visualized by Ovito". But it didn’t show how they load this kind of file.
The OpenDIS docs don’t mention this, unfortunately, but the capability to load and visualize ParaDiS dislocation files has been dropped in OVITO 3.9 and later.
The main reason for this step was that version 3.9 involved a major redesign of the internal data model of OVITO, and given the small, unknown user base of this particular capability, it was unclear at the time whether it is worthwhile to port this feature. In fact, you are the first person to ask for it.
If you have access to OVITO Pro or use the Python module, there is a custom file importer extension for OpenDiS data. It’s quite rudimentary and untested, but feedback is welcome. I assume this is the extension the manual page you linked refers to.
