Issues with ASE-GUI with MacOS in dark mode

Hi all,

Has anyone encountered issues with ASE-GUI not displaying the POSCARs/CONTCARs? I just installed the latest version of ase (ase 3.23.0) and when I execute for example ‘ase gui POSCAR’ the ase gui window opens but it’s all grey/black. I tried to switch from the dark mode in MacOS to the light mode, but it didn’t fix the issue and the ase window appears all white.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Max

I recently fixed a similar bug, but I cannot reproduce it as I have no mac/windows machine. Can you post a screenshot please, or describe which specific components of the drawing surface are grey/black?

(Why would you suspect the issue to be related to the POSCAR/CONTCAR format? That would be very unlikely.)

Best regards

Dear Ask,

Apologies for the slow reply.

Ase (version 3.22.1) seems to work fine with POSCARs and CONTCARs, but I cannot get the OUTCAR file to work.

Here’s a screenshot:

Any thoughts?

This thread is about the GUI and MacOS. For other issues please use a different thread. But also, I don’t know about outcars.

Best regards

Hi Ask,

This request is indeed regarding the ASE GUI and MacOS. The GUI seems to work fine with one type of VASP software files (POSCAR/CONTCAR) but not with OUTCAR files. I never experienced this error in previous versions of ASE.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Hi, the problem is related to the Vasp parser rather than the GUI, and it is definitely unrelated to dark mode. Please post the file and the full error, but in a new thread.
