[lammps-users] how assign an energy to an atom

Dear Lammps users

How can I assign an energy to an atom( the energy of the atom could increase if it collides with an external atom), in the begining of the simulation.
Currently I use the velocity set command to change the energy of an atom. Is there a better way?

Thanks so much!!

a classical particle has potential and kinetic energy.
the potential energy is determined by its position
(and that of all other atoms) and its kinetic energy
by its mass and velocity.

you can set velocities via the Velocities section in
the data file or the velocity command. what other
kind of way are you looking for?

or perhaps it would be better to tell us what
you want to achieve so we can know what
your purpose is.
