[lammps-users] Lammps Website is not accessible

Dear Steve,

Both Lammps Website (lammps.sandia.gov) and update packages are not accessible for months.
Since some people from other countries are unable to connect, maybe there are some problem with the website.
Thanks for checking.

I have no problems connecting.

dear chen chen,

Dear Steve,

Both Lammps Website (lammps.sandia.gov) and update packages are not
accessible for months.
Since some people from other countries are unable to connect, maybe there
are some problem with the website.

please think about this again. your logic does not work.
since plenty of other people _are_ able to access the website,
there simply _cannot_ be a problem with the website itself.

that in turn means, that access to the webserver is blocked
somewhere. this can be - in principle - anywhere from your
machine, your internet provide, the internet backbone provider,
the sandia internet provider or the sandia lab network.

possible reasons for that are plenty too, starting with blacklisted
ip number block for excessive spamming and other web/network abuse
up to reasons too delicate to discuss in public.

which of those apply to people not able to access the sandia
servers has to be determed by everybody individually. there are
tools like "traceroute" that can help to find out where traffic
gets stuck. also a lot of web filtering is done with web proxies
which can be implemented completely transparent. the simplest
test you can do is to try changing internet providers, the next
would be to inquire with your local network service provider
and/or technician.

regards,
   axel.

The LAMMPS WWW site is on the main Sandia server, so
if you can't get to www.sandia.gov, then you're stuck. It's
probably blocking on our end of domains that cause problems,
like Alex said.

The sysadmin for www.sandia.gov said he can un-block specific
addresses, so if anyone having this problem sends me your
IP address (4 digits separated by periods), I'll forward it to him.

Steve

Dear all,

Thanks for your advice, really.
I can’t get to www.sandia.gov, too.
So it might be the problem as Steve mentioned and my IP address is 202.114.73.36.

Can you connect to other websites, for example, other U.S. websites, like cnn.com, harvard.edu? Maybe you has local access limitation recently. I am also in China and I can access to both www.sandia.gov and lammps.sandia.gov.

Hi Zhimin Xiong,

They are both accessible, but I can’t connect to www.sandia.gov and lammps.sandia.gov.

I fowarded your IP address to the sysadmin - so try again
in a day or 2 ...

Steve

Hi Steve,

The website is accessible now!
Thank you for your help:)
