I am developing new methods for visualizing multi-dimensional data in 3D environments. Materials science data is very intriguing but a challenging use case. However, I don’t have the materials science background to know what relational patterns matter vs. what’s just noise.
I’m looking at alloy datasets (150K+ alloys, dozens of columns with compositions, phases, properties, etc.) and wondering:
What visualization problems slow down your work?
• What can’t you see that you need to?
• What requires multiple steps that could take fewer?
• What patterns are invisible that should be shown?
I’m not trying to modify existing tools or write a paper. I’m trying to get a clear understanding of what really needs solving on the visualization side. Please let me know if I am asking the wrong questions as well.
