Greg Wilson is running a workshop on managing research software projects at the end of this month to raise money for MetaDocencia - details are at https://third-bit.com/2021/09/07/managing-research-software-projects/. Topics to include:
- how to run an effective meeting,
- how to recruit new contributors and help them be productive,
- how to prioritize work,
- how to design complex software and ensure its reliability, and
- how to share what you’ve done.
If you or anyone you know is trying to learn more about managing software projects specifically in a research environment (like new faculty or staff at a national laboratory, or the maintainer of an open source library), I highly recommend this. Also, if you have suggestions about things that really, really ought to be included in the curriculum, please let me know and I’ll forward to Greg.
The pedagogical approach of the Materials Project Workshop is based on the approach of the Software Carpentry foundation that he founded.
