Managing Research Software Projects Workshop

Greg Wilson [1] is running a workshop on managing research software projects at the end of this month to raise money for MetaDocencia - details are at https://third-bit.com/2021/09/07/managing-research-software-projects/. Topics to include:

  • how to run an effective meeting,
  • how to recruit new contributors and help them be productive,
  • how to prioritize work,
  • how to design complex software and ensure its reliability, and
  • how to share what you’ve done.

If you or anyone you know is trying to learn more about managing software projects specifically in a research environment (like new faculty or staff at a national laboratory, or the maintainer of an open source library), I highly recommend this. Also, if you have suggestions about things that really, really ought to be included in the curriculum, please let me know and I’ll forward to Greg.

[1] The pedagogical approach of the Materials Project Workshop is based on the approach of the Software Carpentry foundation that he founded.
