Does MatBench only allow use of Symmetry and/or Structure input for regression? Can I not use composition or derived quantities as independent variable in my model?
The original Matbench is essentially retired. However, you are allowed to derive any properties from the composition/structure inputs that are provided (e.g., spacegroup from structure).

Is there any on-going project I can contribute to as matbench is retiring.
I believe matbench-discovery may still be accepting contributions, and there are some other benchmarks from various research groups that may still be ongoing (e.g., https://ai.meta.com/blog/meta-fair-science-new-open-source-releases/)
