Is it possible to simulate particles in one dimension?
technically, yes. but practically, it is difficult, since there is not
fix enforce1d and none of the features requiring to know the number of
degrees of freedom (e.g. compute temp) can work correctly.
that is assuming, that you are referring to a true 1-d simulation with
all particles on a line.
