Representation of the background liquid in the Ovito

Dear All,
I am corious to know how is possible to show water molecules in the system like a cloud, for example what they have done in this paper (https://doi.org/10.1021/acsanm.1c00944?rel=cite-as&ref=PDF&jav=VoR)

Is the possible to have such these nice figures by OVITO software?

Yes, this is possible, but it requires a few steps. I created this sample with a metal column in the center, surrounded by water molecules:

To construct the volume representation of the water molecules:

  1. I first selected all water molecules using the Select Type modifier.
  2. Then, I applied the Construct Surface Mesh modifier with the Gaussian Density method to create a mesh around them.
  3. I deleted all water atoms using the Delete Selected modifier.
  4. Finally, I added some color and transparency to the surface mesh.

Here’s the final image:

Regarding adding some color, would you mind letting us more information on adjusting which color parameters are you using for this purpose?

In the Surface Mesh Display, I set a uniform blue color and adjusted the transparency to 66%.
