Xdatcar error when reading XDATCAR, "could not convert string to float"

Hi, when using Xdatcar from pymatgen I get an error apparently related to parsing the XDATCAR. Looks like for a few coordinates, the minus sign is separated by numbers to the left with no space in between…verified that in the XDATCAR, which is from VASP 6.5.0. Has anyone found a fix for this? Here is the error output:

Hey @kirklew, there were issues parsing XDATCARs for unaries in older versions of pymatgen, can you make sure you’re running a newer version of pymatgen first?

Also if you can share the XDATCAR, or a relevant snippet from it, I’ll try to reproduce the error and and submit a PR for it

I will definitely check that out, though I’m pretty sure its not that old a version.

I don’t seem to be able to upload attachments as a “new” user so is there another way to get the file to you. Also, its like 250 MB zipped…maybe I need to cut it down regardless?

Thanks, @kirklew. Confirming it was indeed the parsing of malformed floats. A fix was merged into pymatgen - you can pip install directly from the github repo until the next pymatgen release
